Abstract
The text analyzes issues such as the duration of the dictatorship, the positivity or not of the lack of the right of provocation towards it and the possibility of using the dictatorship as a weapon against popular seditions. Reflection on these themes characterizes the exemplary dictatorships of the early roman republic but it is actually the result of a debate developed in the first century B.C., especially after the dictatorship of Silla.
