Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Inflation conditions the economy, with effects on inequality in income and wealth and on economic growth. Inflationary phenomena can entail significant economic and social costs if sustained, but appreciable benefits if modest. Major central banks take these costs and benefits into account when defining monetary policy. The consequences of inflation are relevant to the social doctrine of the Church, which emphasizes the importance of living and working conditions capable of promoting integral human development.
