Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] High gender pay differentials characterize Italy and other countries where gender discrepancies also occur in other labor market indicators, such as employment. Hence the importance of analyzing these gaps by considering gender differences in the selection process in employment. In this work we analyze the gender pay gaps, emphasizing how gender aspects affect wages differently in different regions. An analysis is proposed for the period 2007-2010 with EU SILC panel data. Significant gender discrepancies emerge which are not constant along the wage distribution and differ in the different regions. Furthermore, education plays a very important and positive role both for the selection in employment and for wages, especially for women.
