The election campaign carried out through Facebook before the 2018 regional elections in Lombardy and Lazio can be defined as a polyphonic campaign in which the selection and narration of the different themes is accomplished in the combination of multiple voices. The Facebook pages used by the candidates during the election campaign were flanked by those of the main supporting lists, which acquired significant visibility within the platform. The comments then flanked the candidates' posts with a visible and significant counter-chant, sometimes attuned, sometimes dystonic with respect to the candidates and lists. Several authors have focused on how this choral, or polyphony, of online communication influences the selection and framing or narrative processes of the topics covered during the election campaign. Meraz and Papacharissi (2013), for example, use the expressions networked framing and networked gatekeeping to describe how the selection and definition of the problems faced, their narrative frames (causal, moral etc.) are the result of a connected and networked discourse that involves multiple subjects. The chapter, based on a qualitative analysis of the published posts and comments, describes how the theme of immigration, during the election campaign that preceded the 2018 regional elections, was the subject of a polyphonic narrative. In terms of top down communication (or what is published on the pages of candidates and lists), the polyphony of the network emerges as characterized by reinforcement or delegation dynamics between the candidate page and the pages of the lists that support it. In terms of bottom up communication (i.e. what is published by readers - users of social media commenting on the candidates' posts), syntonic communication flows emerge which reaffirm and reinforce the narrative frames proposed, as well as dystonic communication flows, alternative narratives in response to the silence of some candidates.
