Abstract

In this paper, we present the results of a study on how women have been portrayed in the first edition of the Grand Dictionnaire Français-Italien et Italien-Français by Costanzo Ferrari and Joseph Caccia (1874), which includes proper names. Encyclopedic information distinguishes this dictionary from the other bilingual french-italian dictionaries published in the same period. We examine the presence and the representation of women among the proper names of notable personalities and characters in myths and literature.
