Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] A list of books found in a closet in the building of the Inquisition of Piacenza in 1769, that is, after the Bourbon suppression of the courts of the Holy Office, allows us to formulate some hypotheses about the reasons for this book presence. The printed volumes and manuscripts that were found there, albeit gathered in a manifestly disorganized manner, in fact tell both of the specialist culture of the inquisitors, and of some episodes of their intervention, showing juxtaposed aids in legal and theological matters books examined in related to requests for imprimatur, as well as readings that are variously prohibited and seized by ecclesiastical judges. Version, slightly revised and without documentary appendix, of the essay already published in 'Bollettino storico piacentino', CI, 2006, pp. 209-250.
