Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] What is free trade and how does it work? Why does it enhance the well-being of the people who participate in it? International trade is as old as human civilization. But its weight has never been more relevant than today: it really took off only with the Industrial Revolution and the abolition of duties on grain in England in 1846. The explosion of international trade thus played a fundamental role in the incredible growth economic trend that has occurred in recent times: the world GDP per capita has in fact gone from 1,000 dollars in 1800 to 16,000 in 2018. As Don Boudreaux explains in this book, exchange makes specialization possible and encourages it, also encouraging automation and innovation. And the more the division of labor widens, the more goods and services available to each of us increase.
