Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The technique represented a world of knowledge and know-how in the eighteenth century, and in this world of knowledge develops the dialogue between natural and artificial. The analysis of definitions in diachrony (Dictionary of the Academy, Encyclopaedia) of 'machine', 'automaton', 'android' illustrates the fertile ground for the reflection of the nineteenth century around the artificial.
