Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The issue of the legal minimum wage raises growing interest in the Italian political debate while the social partners, and in particular the unions, remain strongly opposed. Starting from an analysis of the ongoing erosion of collective bargaining, this article examines the legislative proposals for the introduction of a minimum wage currently under discussion in Parliament and discusses its possible economic effects. The positions of the social partners on the topic are described in detail. In the last concluding section, a series of measures are presented and discussed that could be adopted to combine collective bargaining and minimum wages.
