Abstract
This paper examines the Italian terminology related to the domain of the photovoltaic energy, in order to analyse the use of terminology and the modes of expression in different text genres, which are characteristic of the communication in this business sector.
To carry out this research we collected lexicographic and textual documentation, which enabled us to outline a conceptual mapping of the terms and a linguistic analysis of terminological units.
The lexicographic material consists of some glossaries related to the photovoltaic domain, while the textual corpus includes Italian written texts, which offer a representative sample of communication genres in the photovoltaic sector, such as regulatory legal texts, informative or promotional texts.
Through the analysis of the use of terminology and of the modes of expression in these types of texts it was possible to assess the level of specialism and the terminological complexity that characterize the communication in this sector.
