Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The book reconstructs the multiple perspectives on the city and on the housing problem in North-West Italy between the 1950s and 1970s: precisely in this period the demographic pressure exerted by migratory flows on Milan, Turin and Genoa, the three main industrial centers of the The area fueled a rich debate on urban living conditions, first and foremost due to the social implications of the building issue, urging public and private actors to identify possible political solutions. There were many subjects in various capacities involved in denouncing the presence of unhealthy and precarious homes and in the development of regulations and plans - national and local institutions and bodies, parties, unions, movements, scholars, groups of inhabitants, intellectuals, etc. – and the in-depth examination of their perspectives allows us to measure the degree of perception of the problem among political forces and public opinion, to analyze the type of mobilization born around these issues and to interpret the responses provided by the public decision-maker.
