Abstract
Peace building and international aid (as a possible expression of gift)are analysed with reference to economic causes and consequences of conflict ('civil' conflict in particular). The paper develops the intuition that 'forgiveness' represents a realistic perspective for assessing transitional justice, peace building, state/nation building initiatives. reference to both literature and expereinces allows highlighting the contribution of the catholic social tradition in these fileds.
