Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] From the fifties to the nineties of the nineteenth century, Gerolamo Boccardo expressed himself in almost fifty years of profession of positivist faith that was never static and at the same time firmly anchored to the principles of liberalism. The belief in the experimental nature of economics, a natural science governed by laws no less rigorous and necessary than those which govern the physical world, does not compromise the validity of the laws of classical economics. Hence the criticism of historicism, which also underlines the merit of having attached importance to the inductive method and sensitivity to the history and use of statistical surveys. Hence the open opposition to socialism and Marxism, but also the refusal of an a priori condemnation and the interest in publishing them highlighting the relevance of issues such as the social effects of economic crises and technological innovation
