[Autom. eng. transl.] What really makes a company excellent? This is the question to which the Best Managed Companies Award (BMC) initiative seeks to answer, proposed by Deloitte in various countries of the world and organized since 2018 also in Italy, with the support of ALTIS, the High Business School and Society of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Confindustria and Elite (Borsa Italiana). The BMC project intends to identify best practice cases in the way companies in the countries participating in the editions of the program are managed. This volume collects the main results of the analyzes of the companies awarded on the occasion of the first Italian edition of the award. To carry out these analyzes, the consultants of Deloitte Private made use of the scientific collaboration of the ALTIS researchers, who adapted the international analysis protocol to the Italian context and supervised the business evaluation process and the field survey, supported by the other partners of the initiative and by a jury of experts who identified the "Best Managed" companies. Based on numerous examples from the Italian award, the volume illustrates the main management choices that can support the lasting success of a company. The various chapters present the winning policies in the areas of strategy, innovation, strategic partnerships, human capital, management planning and control systems, as well as internationalization and sustainability. The text also contains examples taken from the cases of Italian "Best Managed" companies, offering entrepreneurs and managers numerous useful ideas to reflect on what has already been done and what else they could do, in their own company, to guide it on a path of excellence.
