Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] In recent years, in parallel with the progress of the liberalization and privatization processes, companies operating in the public utility services showed a particular strategic “vitality”, evidenced by the differentiation of the lines of development chosen by them. The gradual disappearance of sectoral and territorial constraints, which in the past severely limited company operations, increased the degrees of freedom of management in defining development paths and significantly re-evaluated the importance of management strategic. In particular, a growing number of companies are favoring a development model inspired by the multi-utility logic, through the extension of its range of action to a plurality of businesses related to the public utility area. This work is proposed as a contribution to the study of the reasons why many utilities have decided to disengage from logic of exclusivity of the core business, through productive diversification strategies. One wonders what the industrial logic is and / or financial underlying the emerging business models and questions about the strategic and organizational structures towards which the public utilities may tend in the future. These are, in a nutshell, some of the questions that have stimulated the proposed study, becoming purpose of the same.
