Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The media today are on life, that is they belong to our everyday life, they are increasingly part of how we retrieve information, get in touch with others, occupy free time. This is also true for the family. The media are an integral part of the relationship between parents and children, they offer opportunities, they require educational attention.
In the Report, this situation was investigated by referring it to some aspects that concern the family today: the fact that it is increasingly broken up (single-parent or reconstituted families), the fact that it is increasingly over-responsible for mothers, the difficulty of parents in reconciling times for the family with work time.
For broken families, digital media represent an undoubted possibility of contact: children can communicate with both parents, regardless of the new structures of their unions, even beyond the moments of physical coexistence.
Even for handyman mothers (housewives and career mothers at the same time, engaged in the maternal role and also to substitute that of the father) digital media represent an important tool: they use them to keep the situation under control, develop complicity with children, communicate with them even from work.
Lastly, the work-family balance. Smart-working, also working from home thanks to technologies, has reaffirmed its importance in the long months of the lock-down. Once again a great opportunity, but with an attention to keep: separating the times (if not the spaces) of work and family, do not let the ubiquity and connectivity of digital media take away all its moments from the family.
In the end it is a problem of awareness and responsibility. Research has shown this well. In the information society, the media represent a way to "increase" the experience and experiences of our families, but their use must be accompanied by a strong educational intention.
