Abstract

This preliminary research investigated the motivations and barriers to the profession of Personal Trainer for women. The qualitative study analyzed the responses of 32 women (28 ± 7 years) employed as personal trainers. The first motivation for the profession is personal interest (91%, n = 29), then remunerative interest (6%, n = 2). There is the need for further professional training (66%, n = 21), but with female trainers. It is important to have a support figure for the profession (in family or in professional sphere), to develop within the training process a vision that does not negatively stereotype the figure of the woman and her professionalism, to create an environment that favors harmonic integration and the possibility of a balance between the work and family environment. Data shows the feeling that the woman is subject to discrimination only for the simple fact of being a woman.
