Abstract
The paper examines a case of a cultural translation, which is the adaptation of the Encyclopédie and the Descriptions des arts et métiers in a encyclopaedic Italian text, designed for the needs of agricultural and commercial knowledge, and for the manufacturing of the Venetian region in the XVIIIth century. The "Dizionario delle arti e de’ mestieri", compiled by Francesco Griselini and published in Venice from 1768 to 1771, concerns the needs of a technical and scientific reform in order to promote the economic and productive system renewal: it illustrates natural sciences, arts and commerce, creating an economic and technological encyclopaedia of Italian rural domain. The comparison between primary sources and the final text is analysed following the case of tanning and its craftsmen.
