[Autom. eng. transl.] The monograph summarizes the results of a research project, conducted in ASERI-Alta Scuola di Economia e Relazioni Internazionali of the Università Cattolica and promoted by Federcongressi&eventi, with the aim of detecting the economic and financial situation of companies operating in the Italian meeting industry carrying out congress organization activities, in order to outline the fundamental aspects that characterize the sector and to investigate the fundamental factors that determine the level of sustainability of the business model of Professional Conference Organizers. The first part of the monograph focuses on the analysis of the financial statements, from 2017 to 2022, of conference organization companies, whose main activity is classified with the ATECO code 82.30-Organization of conferences and fairs, with a turnover of at least 400,000 euros, and presents progressive insights into the trend of economic and financial data over time, with reference both to the group of companies analyzed and to the average values recorded by companies depending on their turnover class. The second part of the monograph reports the results of an empirical research conducted, with the collaboration of a Federcongressi&eventi working group, on a significant sample of conference organization companies during 2023, which allows for an in-depth analysis of the management and organizational dynamics of the companies being researched. The monograph offers all Professional Conference Organizers operating in Italy both a systematic and updated overview of the value generated by the sector, and a set of useful data for analyzing their positioning and configuring new competitive strategies, thanks also to the numerous positioning maps that graphically highlight the competitive situation of companies.
