[Autom. eng. transl.] The reflection around the sign and the semiotic function was very thorough in France in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. As for the seventeenth century, the most interesting results were achieved in the Port-Royal school, with the 'Grammar' and the 'Logic', and in the work of G. de Cordemoy. In the eighteenth century, a remarkably different conception emerged, that of Condillac. The discussion about the interpretation of these semiotic theories, interesting also because of the influence they have or may have had on Saussurian thought, is still quite lively today.
