Abstract

In this chapter we examine the employment levels of the female gender in the Italian banking system. After a review of the literature, we analyze women’s presence in the Italian banking industry. The time span is from 2004 to 2012(last available). The survey shows that there are no particular foreclosures and / or obstacles to female employment in the banking sector: indeed, in recent years female employment has increased importance. Nevertheless, also the banking sector is characterized by vertical segregation, already explored in previous chapters: in fact, there are evident difficulties for a more marked presence of women in the management roles.
