Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] We often talk about contemporary society as a mobile society. And not just because the number of people who travel, over long or short distances, and for the most disparate reasons, is constantly growing. The term "mobility" refers, in fact, also to the movement of material goods and money, or to the typical mobility of the media, such as the flow of images, information and communications. Among the various forms of mobility, this book deals with travel, media-related mobility, and their interdependence. Reflecting on the convergence of physical (travel) and virtual mobility (mediated communication) also means questioning the birth of new forms of sociality: reticular and mobile links, because they are based simultaneously on the journeys necessary for face-to-face meetings, and on communication mediated at a distance. Through a qualitative research on independent travelers and their uses of new media, the volume therefore aims to reconstruct the connection between physical and virtual mobility and to investigate the social relationships that are intertwined and maintained by these communities traveling through the Internet and mobile telephony .
