Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The prospect of demographic aging of the population assumes a fundamental influence as an incident factor on the transformations that work is also undergoing. The aging population is a phenomenon common to all advanced economies. The extension of life expectancy, along with the drastic drop in birth rates that followed the baby boom of the 50s and 60s of the last century, are the reasons why in the next few years a huge flow of workers coming out of the labor market by retiring into retirement. The issue of staying active in the second half of life is a problem that today has come to represent one of the main issues to be addressed in order to guarantee the population, even in the near future, well-being and prosperity. Although traditionally frequented by sociological literature, the concept of activation, declined in relation to the age of old age, today needs to be partly rewritten. If the chronological age considered alone is not a sufficient factor to explain the processes of premature aging of the labor force, it constitutes the epiphenomenon of a more complex aging process which forces us to consider the activation of the most mature cohorts of the population as a strategic problem. In this perspective, the development of policies capable of affecting the regulatory framework of the labor market centered on by now anachronistic logics of young in-old out replacement, proves to be one of the most demanding challenges. This volume is part of an experimental action aimed at the activation and employability of workers over 45, promoted by the Autonomous Province of Trento and called the AWARE Project - Aging Workers Awareness to Recuperate Employability. In it is gathered the contribution of experts, researchers and scholars in different measure involved in the definition and implementation of the Project, and who for years and with reference to different contexts have devoted themselves to the issue of active aging and policies to respond effectively. In this sense, the volume therefore intends to accompany the dissemination action of the results achieved by the Project, also aiming to stimulate reflection and debate around crucial problems concerning the structures that our society will assume in the near future.
