Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The flexibility and virtualisation of work, the digitalisation of business models, the pervasiveness of artificial intelligence in working and learning processes represent just some of the contemporary challenges that organizations are facing. These changes generate growing complexities in the organization of work and the management of people, typically areas of action of human resources professionals, which require a transformation of their role, opening up the opportunity to (re)give strategic and social value to the HR profession . Despite a large scientific literature suggesting that human resources specialists should cover strategic consultancy, organizational design and innovation management roles, there is numerous evidence that reports the struggles and failures of the HR function in achieving these objectives. The article offers a series of evidence and considerations to continue building the role of HR professionals in a changing scenario.
