Abstract

The article examines two important topics of urban sociology: the relation city/culture and city/gender. Feminist movement shows how urban spaces are often gendered. For example in the industrial city space of production is always masculine and separated from the female space of reproduction. The bet about I talk in these pages is around a different way of life and work where these dimensions are deeply related. Two social researchs about women enterpreneurs in Milan show how this is possible. These women are all engaged in cultural production and in their working venture bring personal experiences. With these particular activities they are able to reconcile the public and private dimensions of their life. Moreover in this way they root in the place where they live and work. The city, in this case Milan, became more comfortable for all, women and men together.
