Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] It is very likely that the "populist moment" that marked the 1910s of the 21st century is over. However, it would be rather naive to believe that even the populist "style", to which the unscrupulous leaders of recent years have accustomed us, is destined to disappear from the scene. Perhaps we should instead begin to suspect that the appeal to the people really marks the contemporary Zeitgeist, that is, that it is not only a pathology, capable of undermining our democracies, but also a way of understanding democracy that we will no longer be able to do without. The essays collected in this volume represent a multi-voiced investigation into what Ernesto Laclau defined as the "populist logic". And - from different perspectives - they provide useful elements for reflecting on the variations in which the "appeal to the people" manifests itself, as well as on the guises that the people invoked by the 'populists' takes on from time to time.
