Abstract

The determination of the main football clubs' balance sheet items is a fundamental step for understanding their economic and financial dynamics and for understanding the structure of the industry. The positive components of the income statement, in fact, determine the relative importance of the different customers, while the negative ones allow to appreciate the relative importance of the different categories of suppliers. From the revenue point of view, the football industry has undergone a real revolution in recent years, with the decrease of match-day revenues and the strong increase, in percentage and in absolute value (at least until the 2000-01 season), of the tv broadcasting rights revenues. From the point of view of costs, there is a constant increase, in percentage and in absolute value, of the technical staff, that is the cost of the salaries of the players and the coaches.
