Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The relationship between Matteo Ricci and Xu Guangqi appears enlightening because it allowed the intercultural exchange between western science and Chinese science, but also - and perhaps above all - because it allowed a comparison and an understanding on the deep anthropological knot, like that of friendship, which passes transversely across all cultures. Intercultural relationships always create something new, something in between: the idea of friendship and the idea of Churches of which Ricci was a carrier were undoubtedly occidental, but in the relationship with Xu Guangqi and his friends even such ideas became something of different, less western and more "intermediate".
