Abstract
This paper examines Theophrastus' testimony on Alcibiades, consisting of three fragments devoted to the characteristics of Alcibiades' oratory, Alcibiades' agreement with Phaeax on the occasion of the ostracism of Hyperbolus, and the exceptional, yet embarrassing, character of his personality. The fragments on Alcibiades attest to Theophrastus' interest in the political and institutional history of the 5th century and the fascination exercised by this controversial protagonist of Athenian political life.
