Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Based on archival sources, Matteo Landoni reconstructs the history of Italian institutions in the space sector, from the pioneering beginnings to the creation of the Italian Space Agency. The book thus offers a complete overview of the origins of our country's space policy, from industrial motivations to international aspects, based on access to scientific and technological collaboration programs and on cooperation with European and American partners. Among the topics addressed, the transformation of the industrial society that is the backdrop to the space race, the tools to support the sector, the political choices that led to the creation of the ASI - whose first twenty years of activity are compared with the European partners' work - highlighting their role as a political tool for bringing Italy and its companies into the international technological exchange network. The change in the relationship between politics and industry is also emphasized, making explicit the problematic transition between the decline of the state participation system and new forms of intervention based on innovation intermediaries, in favor of objectives of national interest.
