Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The foster care is a procedure to carry out the family custody of a child in a collaborative way, giving as much as possible listening and decision-making space to the child or boy, to his parents and to the family that welcomes him, even in the prescriptive context of the provisions of 'Judicial authority. This volume presents a research on the foster care experiences held in Lombardy, over a decade, by a small Third Sector organization. The authors have carried out a review of international research on foster care, extrapolating the operational indications. These indications were then compared with the procedure of foster care, both in terms of how it was outlined "in the abstract" and how it was actually perceived by those directly involved, whose point of view was collected through 40 interviews carried out with foster children, their biological parents, carers and their children. The text is useful for social workers, professional educators and psychologists because it illustrates the model of participated foster care not only in the theoretical assumptions and in the procedural indications, but also in how it is actually implemented in the field. Furthermore, the analysis of the interviews allows you to get an idea of what it means to live foster care "from within", as a child, parent, brother or sister. Finally, in terms of social work research, the book stands out as one of the rare Italian examples in which the international literature of the sector has been used to validate a practice and to identify in a precise and concrete way the possible further developments: it is, in short, an example of how research and professional practice of social work can effectively connect.
