Abstract

The essay comments on the enterprise level collective agreement of Luxottica, signed on 21st June 2019, which is read in the context of participative experiences carried out in the Country. It is an ambitious agreement, through which the firm and the trade unions intend to face the challenges coming from the integration with Essilor and from the technological and productive innovation. The exchange between workers’ participation and flexibility lies at the very heart of the agreement: the necessary organisational adaptation is secured by involving workers and trade unions at every level, from the strategic one to the organisational and operational ones. Despite the great value of the commented experience, the author invokes in the conclusionary remarks a legislative intervention to consolidate the participative practices so far experimented in the Country. This would be the only way to preserve them from the precariousness and reversibility to which the Italian voluntarist system of industrial relations condemns them.
