Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The term "out of family" today refers to the heterogeneous category of minors who, for a rather diversified series of causes, live far from the parental context in which they were born. For a long time these children were assisted in depersonalizing and crowded residential facilities. The essay reconstructs the process and the reasons that, during the twentieth century, led to the abandonment of the ancient institutes and to the birth of community-based educational institutions, based on the reproduction of a life context similar to the family one.
