[Autom. eng. transl.] The article traces the editorial vicissitudes that were behind the first Italian translations of Virginia Woolf. In fact, consulting the Historic Archive of Arnoldo Mondadori Editori there is a trace of the relations of the House with four of the numerous translators who dealt with the work of the writer, and these papers are sufficient to give an idea of what were the difficulties that Mondadori had to face to translate a writer with complex prose like Virginia Woolf. Also presented is the unpublished correspondence of the translator Alessandra Scalero, kept at the Scalero Archive of Mazzé, which helps to shed light on some editorial choices.
