Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The article proposes a new critical edition of the life of St. Marcelline (BHL, 5223), sister of St. Ambrose of Milan, studying the manuscripts and the relationships between the witnesses. The text was composed in Milan between the end of the 9th century and the second half of the 10th century, after the life of his brother Satyrus (BHL 7510) and the biography of Ambrose even composed in the middle of the 9th century (De vita and meritis, BHL 377d). One of the sources used by the anonymous author is De virginibus d'Ambroise, a long passage of which is included in the medieval life of Marcelline: it is a very interesting example of an indirect tradition. In this regard the article gives an overview of the handwritten tradition of this work of the Milan boss.
