Abstract
Pontius Pilate is a popular figure among contemporary authors, who tend to project their mentality onto him. This essay analyses how the modern idea of truth emerges through Pilate’s prospective. The first part identifies its major characteristics: rationality, relativism, dynamism and so on. The second part explores the possibility of meeting an absolute Truth, not in theory but through practical experience. Eventually the essay focuses on Pilate as a negative or positive model for modern readers, especially in relation to the experience of uncertainty.
