Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] In contemporary linguistic theories the concept of 'translation' takes on different meanings and the translation process is more or less compatible with the fundamental theoretical assumptions accepted by the various scholars. The linguistic theories considered are structuralism, generativism and textual linguistics. We refer particularly to the thought of Saussure, Hjelmslev, Jakobson, Lakoff, Fillmore, Chomsky, Šaumjan, Mel'čuk and Petöfi.
