Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Liminal space and crossroads of different peoples and cultures, the land of the two rivers has always had in diversity one of its main constituent figures. Since the early years of the twentieth century, this underlying complexity has resulted in a series of power articulation projects that are often openly divergent with respect to the structure that prevailed in 1921. Although with different forms, intensity and modalities, these “alternative visions of Iraq "They continued to exert a profound influence in the following decades, not only in the north with a Kurdish majority, but also in the central-southern provinces. Today, with the liberation of Mosul from the taking of the self-styled "Islamic State", they have returned to play a leading role and to deeply influence the balance of a country that, once again, appears to be poised between promises of rebirth and risks of dissolution.
