[Autom. eng. transl.] The theory of mind is the ability to predict and interpret one's own behavior and that of others on the basis of mental states. It turns out to be a fundamental skill in managing interpersonal relationships. Initially investigated in the early stages of development, in recent years it has become the object of study in a life cycle perspective. As for the elderly, the studies have stopped to investigate the changes in the capacity of the theory of mind in both physiological and pathological aging. The present contribution, without any pretense of completeness, offers a deepening of the most recent literature systematizing the reflection around four fundamental themes: changes on the phenomenal-behavioral level; changes in the neural correlates; synchrony / asynchrony between behavioral dimension and neural dimension; plausibility of induced plasticity.
