Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The 2000s explosives, with digital technology and the strength of "media convergence", are characterized by conflicting thrusts that have led to an increasingly "multiple" TV, not only in terms of abundance of supply, networks, content, but also in relation to the overlapping of business models, fruition paths, product types and genres. To understand, therefore, what television is today, it is necessary to refine the tools of analysis, accept the challenge of the complexity of the medium, move along the boundaries of competences and disciplines. This book represents the result, in full Telvision Studies mode, of an open dialogue between two worlds: that of the gaze of television scholars, bearers of a theoretical and methodological approach to study and research into the medium and that of the competence of professionals engaged in the field of the television industry. In fact, the book proposes a precise objective: to offer those who have undertaken a course of study in the media and TV sector, or who aspire to develop their professional profile in this field, a vision on the main analytical approaches to this means and on the routines that govern its operation. The volume is divided into two sections. The first part, "Studying television: approaches and methods", offers an examination of the different perspectives of study with which television has been analyzed in the course of its history, providing the tools (and the vocabulary) to analyze the medium analytically . The second part, "Analyzing television: case studies", transfers to paper the daily work that is carried out in television companies, in its concreteness of operational strategies, professional practices and specific terminologies that substantiate the industry approach to TV. At the end of this path, the reader will have all the tools available to understand what it is, how it has changed and - above all - how television works.
