Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The long-term cost structure of Italian dairy farms was examined using a translogarithmic hybrid cost function, estimated on the FADN data. To analyze an extremely complex and varied reality such as dairy production in Italy, the estimate was conducted separately for three categories of companies (Montagna, other Objective 1 and Plain areas), while to verify the evolution of production technology over time, the sample was further subdivided with reference to the first half and the second half of the nineties. The results clearly show the existence of strong economies of scale linked to the production of milk, as well as of significant rents linked to the possession of the quotas.
