Abstract
The article examines the birth and development of the Dicastery for the\ r\ nOriental Churches within the Roman Curia, as an instrument and expression of the Roman Pontiff's concern for the Catholic\ r\ nOriental Churches. The institution of the dicastery represents the culmination of a centuries-old journey, often marked by challenges and shaped by historical, ecclesiological and legal transformations. Its functions evolved progressively,\ r\ n until it reached its current structure following the reform of the Roman Curia\ r\ n promoted by Pope Francis with the apostolic constitution Praedicate\ r\ nEvangelium.
