Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Sociological thought, in its two centuries of history, has dedicated a limited interest to theater, both as a cultural product and as a process of representation, even if this interest has been constant over time: the theater object, that is, finds a space ( limited) both in classical authors and in more recent studies, referring to the system of cultural products that today use the so-called performative languages. In this contribution I propose to illustrate how sociology and theater have become contaminated in various ways in the recent period: I will limit myself to brief notes on the relationship between theater and social theory; theater and social research; theater and social work, drawing inspiration directly from my personal scientific research itinerary. On the first point I illustrate the novelty introduced by Erving Goffman in the theory of the social actor, thanks to the concept of "dramaturgy"; on the second point I show how theater can help social research (for example, when theatrical languages are used as tools of investigation); on the third point, I mention the formative and transformative value of theatrical performances for the reconstitution of the social fabric and the relationships between individuals.
