Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] As underlined by the 2010 Svimez Report on the Economy of the South, "the South has been growing less than the Center-North for eight consecutive years, something that has never happened since the post-war period". In any other large country in Europe there is no territorial economic gap similar to the one existing in Italy between North-Central and South. This is a problem that in recent years has worsened not only in terms of growth, but above all for the absolute levels achieved by the gap itself in terms of indicators of income, wealth, unemployment, etc. compared to other areas of Italy and Europe. This gap also shows a potential for further development in Italy - that of the South - that Italy is unable to activate.
