Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Cuore (1886) describes a school year in a male primary school in Turin in 1881-82. The book has been a classic of Italian literature for almost 100 years, with countless translations. The essay examines how the school described by De Amicis has been re-presented in four filmic transpositions in Republican Italy, to verify adhesions and necklines with respect to the book, which testify permanence and discontinuity in the way of remembering and representing the Italian school. The versions examined are the 1947 film, directed by Dulio Coletti, with Vittorio De Sica; the 1973 film, directed by Romano Scavolini; the 1984 serial directed by Luigi Comencini for Rai 1; the 2001 serial directed by Maurizio Zaccaro for Canale 5. The analysis used is quantitative and qualitative and takes into account the opinions expressed online by DVD buyers.
