Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] How does a discovery happen? And what relationship is there between what scientists experience when they discover nature and what happens, or can happen, in the classroom? The discovery between scientists and children deals with the theme of scientific discovery in a new and original way. Telmo Pievani, philosopher of science, reconstructs and studies the intellectual path documented in the secret notebooks of Charles Darwin (1836-1844), to begin to understand the discovery: a "context" that has always been elusive and neglected by epistemology. Marcello Sala, teacher and trainer, discovers that a conversation between children often resembles, unexpectedly, precisely the intimate and social process experienced by the young Darwin towards the theory of evolution. Where do scientific theories and hypotheses come from? Between the diligent work of development from previous hypotheses and inexplicable flashes of genius, the discovery is an open construction site, a bricolage of ideas in an attempt to tame recalcitrant facts, a typically sapiens challenge of curiosity and freedom, and yet it presents its own regularities and logics that we are also beginning to understand thanks to the Darwinian legacy. The thought in action of Darwin and the children, carefully documented and analyzed here, provides new ideas and leads to get to grasp the discovery in its essence, dismantling - as Emanuele Serrelli writes in his introduction - the many myths that surround it. "The moves of the game of discovery" and the struggle with the facts of evolution constitute a bridge between science and school, perhaps the inspiration for a renewed philosophy of science and for new teaching styles, because "students do not just learn the science, but become part of it"
