Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The magazine "Il gallo", born as a predominantly literary sheet in Italy after the Second World War, soon became one of the most significant voices of the Italian Catholic press. During the Fifties, the contribution of the magazine to the diffusion in our country of the French nouvelle théologie and of less integralist religious conceptions than those then spread in the main Catholic organizations was very significant. Equally significant was the attention of "Il gallo" for the secular state and the strenuous defense of freedom and religious pluralism. Similar positions of the Genoese magazine, long minority, experienced a greater popularity in the years of the Second Vatican Council: the period that saw the greatest diffusion and resonance, national and international, of "Il gallo". Rebuilding such a cultural and religious affair, from the end of the Second World War to the mid-sixties, not only allows us to address some of the most debated issues in the Catholic world of those years, but also to deal with problems that still affect us today and directed the Italian reality
