Abstract
This article is an introductory piece to the forthcoming
publication of the scripts for the 1957 radio program La rinascenza celtica
written by Giorgio Manganelli. This edition is curated by the author. The
radio program, centred on Irish literature and culture, provided the
Italian public with an overview of the Irish Literary Revival and featured
a substantial amount of original translations by Manganelli of various
authors, among them James Clarence Mangan, Lady Wilde, Lady Gregory,
J. M. Synge, and W. B. Yeats. The article focuses firstly on assessing
Manganelli’s translational approach as “interpretant translation” and,
secondly, discusses Manganelli’s approach towards Irish literature and
his role as a mediator in the reception of Irish literature in post-war Italy.
