Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The empirical research, of which the main methodological aspects are illustrated in the chapter, is aimed at describing the characteristics of the Muslim presence in Milan, analyzing the forms and conditions that make the meeting feasible, as well as exploring the role played by some realities organized (Islamic, Catholic and secular) in the dynamic of cultural and religious confrontation. The empirical research was conducted according to a multi-method quantitative and qualitative design, with the use of two different investigative tools: the in-depth interview aimed at privileged witnesses of lay and religious organizations; the structured questionnaire addressed to first and second generation Muslim migrants. The subjects that participated in the empirical research are 18 privileged witnesses (qualitative part) and 211 Muslim migrants (quantitative part), Sunnis in 92% of the cases, recruited for snowballing through the channels practiced by the Ismu Foundation and Oasis Foundation.
