Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Much narrative and testimonial prose, as well as countless memoirs written in the wake of the events of the Risorgimento conflicts, express new existential contents in obsolete, old literary forms, already loaded with rhetoric before being used in the field. And this is even more true for lyric poetry, for patriotic poetry often praising war action for the redemption of freedom. The urgency of action and the authenticity of feeling clash with models of literary practice that are not very flexible and not very inclined to be used as a consolidated expressive and communicative practice. The instrumental use of rhetorical forms, far from the passionate content of the compositions, easily falls into cumbersome syntactic construction and the use of unlikely, as well as anachronistic, mythological or classically derived images.
